The concept of Best Bar None was developed in Manchester UK. After studying  data that showed that a significant proportion of crime( both violet and acquisitive) was directly or indirectly attached to license premises with poor management standards, an awards program was devised to set minimum standards of operation for pubs and clubs in the UK. The objective was to deliver a safer night time economy and a partnership between law enforcement, the industry, operators of licensed premises and concerned community groups. Thus Best Bar None was born, taking a holistic approach to the issues of public safety and crime reduction based on partnerships, shared resources, goals and standards that reward the responsible operators and encourage the bad operators to improve their operating standards.

The program was discovered by Anheuser Busch and the Tampa market was selected to be the USA pilot market because of the strong partnership developed by the industry, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office and the Tampa Alcohol Coalition
